After talking it through with the team, we set the date and boom, Sip ‘N Stroke was born. I always had it in my mind that I wanted to pioneer a new type of an event in the UK and to be an industry leader so my significant other and I were just brainstorming, and she gave me the confidence to just do it. Q: Where did your concept of Sip ‘N’ Stroke come from?Ī: I was already running Old Skool Sundays and Hip Hop Soul and noticed that the crowd was very artistic, creative and afrocentric so I thought to myself, what's next up? Quick shout out to Naomi and Yvonne for basically helping me turn some of my crazy ideas into reality. I have a weird mind.
As good as it is being able to do these things myself, I can't stress enough how important it is to have a team and delegate tasks to them that they are strong in allowing them the freedom to express and showcase their skill. Having these skills has saved me a lot of money, which is vital in the early stages of any business as well as keeping the event out the bow. In terms of the process, I get involved in everything from conception, graphics design, editing videos, finding venues, marketing the event through several media channels to managing all aspects of the event on the night. Merch Millions with an attendee at Sip 'N' Stroke I also step out of my shoes and look at the product or service from the customers point of view. Q: What type of skills do you need in your role?Ī: I definitely think it helps to be well rounded in terms of skill set, especially in the early stages. I was good at taking a product or service and making it look new and exciting like it’s a brand-new item just invented by me. I gave myself the title creative marketer when I moved to London and learned that not everything sells as easy as snow cones in 30°-degree heat. My mom took me to buy about five different flavours of simple syrup and BOOM, overnight neighbourhood Donald Trump (pre-presidential non-idiot Trump that is). I bought a snow-cone maker from my neighbour’s yard sale in Miami. Q: How long have you been a creative marketer?Ī: I've been an entrepreneur since I was 12 years old when I started my first business. From events marketing and business branding, I get it all done. The Miami-born creative entrepreneur successfully started Sip ‘N’ Stroke and after reaching advance sold out status, the event has become very successful with the next one taking place nn Easter Weekend (Apr 20).įind out more about the event and its founder below:Ī: I am a Miami-raised entrepreneur living in London for the past six years. It's then followed by a chance to get on the dance floor, let go and turn up! So, this week I decided to catch up with the founder, Merch Millions. Sip 'N' Stroke, is an initiative which gets people together to embrace their artistic talents in a social environment and create some cool masterpieces! I look forward to attending this one in particular as well as other such classes in different cities.WASSUP PEEPS? Over the weekend, many events took place across London and one in particular stood out for me. Tthe organizer for my party group and I talked about getting together again to bring our moms. Sometimes she had to quiet down the group so she would not have to strain her voice while giving instructions. And the instructor was very patient and sweet.

As the drinks flowed, everyone loosened up and begin to talk to people who weren't in their group. The planner for our party had already instructed us to bring what we'd like to drink and she brought wine openers and plastic flutes. The class did become a little rowdy as everyone sipped on the drinks they brought into the class. And tidbits like painting the sides of your canvas so it is not just blank and white when you hang it was a good thought to share for a non painter like myself.

I thought we would all free style, however the way the class was presented did make more since as the instructor shared with us what colors to mix to make certain colors. After everyone arrived for the class, we had an instructor who shared instructions at the front of the room.ĭrawings were made on each canvas ahead of time and everyone painted the same thing. The easels were placed on the tables along with a cup with brushes. An area at one table had signs reserving the spaces for our party. The space was beautiful and everything was so well organized. The hosts setting up were very friendly and allowed me to come in early and wait for everyone to arrive. I had the time wrong and was about an hour early.

I went with a birthday party and I was the first to arrive. This was my first time doing anything like Sips N Strokes so I really wasn't sure what to expect.
